Al-Faisal Unmanned Surface Vessel Showcased at SOFEX 2026

Thursday 29th October 2026

The Al-Faisal Unmanned Surface Vessel has been showcased by the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) at SOFEX 2026 in Aqaba following completion of an electric-propulsion USV conversion programme with Milanion Group.
The programme converted an existing maritime vessel into an unmanned platform, with Milanion working alongside JODDB as the technology partner for the conversion.
Now operating on the water, Al-Faisal demonstrates how existing vessels can be adapted to introduce unmanned capability around a defined operational requirement.

Partnership in Jordan

The Al-Faisal programme builds on Milanion Group’s collaboration with JODDB and its wider engagement in Jordan.
The programme followed an agreement for the conversion of an existing vessel into an electric-propulsion unmanned surface platform, combining JODDB’s maritime platform and operational requirements with Milanion’s unmanned systems and integration capability.
Rather than developing a new vessel from the ground up, the programme focused on introducing new capability through the conversion of an existing platform.
The completed vessel reflects the practical collaboration between Milanion Group and JODDB in developing unmanned maritime capability around Jordanian operational requirements.

Converting existing maritime platforms

Al-Faisal demonstrates a practical approach to introducing unmanned maritime capability across existing fleets.
By starting with an established vessel, propulsion, control and unmanned systems can be integrated around the platform, mission and customer requirement.
This approach can provide defence and security organisations with a route to extend the capability of existing maritime assets while reducing the requirement to develop an entirely new platform.
Milanion Group’s wider approach to USV conversion is platform-agnostic, allowing the technology architecture to be adapted around different vessels and mission requirements.

Operational capability

Unmanned surface vessels can support missions including maritime surveillance, security and persistent monitoring while reducing personnel exposure during repetitive, remote or higher-risk operations.
Al-Faisal brings that capability onto an existing maritime platform, combining electric propulsion and unmanned operation with the utility of the original vessel.
Its completion provides a tangible demonstration of how existing maritime assets can be adapted for new operational roles as requirements evolve.
The vessel’s showcase at SOFEX 2026 marks an important milestone for the Al-Faisal programme and the continued collaboration between Milanion Group and JODDB in unmanned maritime capability.
